Virtual Scolton

Virtual Scolton

At the start of this month I went into the Manor House at Scolton Manor with a 360° camera to take panoramic photographs of many of the rooms. It was my first attempt at making a completely virtual walkthrough and I did make a few mistakes (you can actually see me just inside one of the doorways) but I took enough images for me to make a VR tour of the house. The camera that I used was a Ricoh Theta, it is quite an old model but very easy to use and gave good results. The software that I used for creating the tour is called Pano2VR by Garden Gnome. It makes the whole process of taking panoramic images and creating a virtual walkthrough so much simpler.

The plan is to go back to Scolton and take more (and better) pictures to create a virtual reality resource that can be used for education as well as an alternative for people who can’t access all parts of the building. There will be more to follow on this aspect of the project, I’m sure.
