Pembrokeshire County Show 2021
The DATRIS Project has been working with a group of people from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park; Hywel Dda University Health Board; PAVS and Pembrokeshire County Council to film this year’s County Show. The aim was to record as much of the show as possible so that people who were unable to attend, for whatever reason, could still experience the event.
We used 360 degree cameras to record footage in order to create a virtual reality experience for people. We also used phones, tablets and portable wifi points to create a livestream of the show on both Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday’s livestream was filmed in rather damp conditions but it worked and residents of some of the county’s care homes were able to see the action as it happened. The stream can still be seen on PLANED’s YouTube channel (of course, it is no longer live) …
… the livestream was coordinated by PCNPA‘s Sarah Beauclerk using an online mixing system called Dazzl. Myself and Lee Hind from PAVS walked around the show ground sending footage live to Sarah. Sarah was then able to choose from both of our feeds and output the resulting mix to YouTube and FaceBook.
We learned a lot over the two days that we were there. Some things worked well, and others presented more of a challenge. This was always going to be a pilot project at a much smaller than usual County Show. Overall, it was a success and we have a new set of techniques that can be used to engage people around Pembrokeshire.
